Mission, Traditions, Structure
Our Mission
Sigma Phi Lambda exists for the sole purpose of glorifying our Lord Jesus Christ and making His name great. Sisters for the Lord is an organization of sisters for the Lord where fellowship with our most high God is fostered by growth in unity with one another. We seek to provide a source of fellowship to Christian women who sincerely seek to know His person, His will, and His ways. Phi Lamb has adopted the Apostle's Creed as its Statement of Beliefs.
Traditions
We have many traditions that have been passed down over the years.
Colors - Red & White - to represent The Blood of Christ and Purity
Symbol - The Lamb - based on our nickname "Phi Lamb" and Psalm 100:3
Big sis/LIL SIS - Active members act as Big Sisters to the pledges
Cable Groups - Small groups that operate within chapter meetings, used for discussion, prayer, and various activities
Prayer Groups & Prayer Nights - Each chapter has individually oriented prayer evenings as well as prayer groups that meet throughout the week
The Engagement Circle - Our own way of honoring the ladies who become engaged while members of their chapter
Memorization of Sorority Verse - Romans 15:5-6 "May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you seek to follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and one mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Structure
The structure of our organization:
Board of Directors
Phi Lamb is governed by a Board of Directors. Seven alumna from various chapters coordinate national policy, vision, and direction.
Executive Director
The Executive Director oversees the daily operations of Phi Lamb on a national level including new chapter applications, chapter administration, and national retreats.
Director of Finance
The Director of Finance oversees the financial records and recordkeeping of the chapters and the national organization.
Regional Directors
Sisters who served as officers during their time in Phi Lamb can apply to serve as a Regional Director to oversee the chapters in a geographic region by providing guidance and ensuring that the chapters run smoothly and effectively.
Alumni Councils
After a chapter has been established long enough to have alumni, an Alumni Council may be formed. These women can be former officers or founding mothers of that chapter. The Alumni Council provides guidance to the chapter and assistance to the Regional Director.
Officers
Five officers are elected yearly in each chapter. The offices are President, Vice President, Chaplain, Secretary, and Treasurer. These officers maintain the daily functions of the chapter and lead the members of their chapter.
Actives
These members of Phi Lamb are considered the big sisters of their chapter. They hold voting rights and may fulfill many different roles within the chapter.
Pledges
New to Phi Lamb, these members are the little sisters. They are cherished by their big sisters and a vital part of Phi Lamb. Upon initiation into the sorority, they are able to vote and become Actives.
